5 Margarita Recipes We’re Trying This Summer

The weather is warm, the patio is in perfect condition and you’re in vacation mode. What’s the final ingredient for a fabulous summer? A festive drink, of course!

The next time five o’clock rolls around, try one of these delicious margaritas that are far from traditional. Careful, though — the whole neighborhood might be lining up for one of these legendary concoctions before you know it!

Margaritas Fresca

Ingredients:

  • Kosher salt
  • 1 lime, cut into 9 wedges
  • 1 ½ cups orange liqueur
  • 1 cup tequila
  • ¾ cup lime juice
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 fresh jalapeno peppers, halved, stemmed, seeded and thinly sliced
  • Crushed ice
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro

Directions:

  1. Spread salt on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rims of the 8-oz glasses. Dip each of the glass rims into the salt and set aside.
  2. In a pitcher, combine orange liqueur, tequila, lime juice and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add jalapeno peppers. Chill until ready to serve.
  3. To serve, add the remaining lime wedges and ice to the pitcher. Muddle 1 lime wedge and 1 tablespoon of cilantro in each glass. Pour mixture into salt-rimmed glasses.

Sparkling Margaritas

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white tequila
  • 2/3 cup lime juice
  • 1/3 cup agave nectar
  • 1 ½ cup champagne
  • Thin lime slices

Directions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, agave nectar and ice. Shake for 5 seconds, then strain the mixture into 6 glasses.
  2. Top each serving with champagne, then add additional lime juice and lime slices to taste.

Mango-Coconut Margaritas

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup chili powder
  • 9 lime wedges
  • ¾ cup orange liqueur
  • ¾ cup coconut-flavored rum
  • 1 ½ cup tequila
  • ¾ cup lime juice
  • ½ cup fine granulated sugar
  • 3 cups fresh mango, peeled, seeded and sliced

Directions:

  1. Spread chili powder on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rims of 8 glasses to coat. Dip rims of glasses in chili powder and set aside.
  2. In a pitcher, combine orange liqueur, tequila, rum, lime juice and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Chill until ready to serve.
  3. Add mango to blender, cover and blend until smooth.
  4. Add mango to tequila mixture. Pour into glasses and garnish with lime wedges.

Grilled Pineapple Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1 pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into 1/2-inch-thick rings
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and sliced
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 3 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
  • 3 cups chilled pineapple juice
  • 1 cup silver tequila
  • ¾ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (4 limes)
  • ½ cup agave syrup
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon Mexican chili powder
  • Lime wedges

Directions:

  1. Grill pineapple over medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes, turning once. Cool.
  2. In a pitcher, combine jalapeno, cilantro and 2 tablespoons of the sugar. Cut 2 slices of pineapple into wedges and set aside. Coarsely chop remaining pineapple and muddle with jalapeno mixture. Stir in pineapple juice, tequila, lime juice and syrup. Let mixture stand 10 min.
  3. Spread the rest of the sugar, chili powder and kosher salt. Coat the rims of the glasses with lime wedges, then dip into the sugar mixture. Pour ice into the glasses followed by the margarita mixture, then embellish with reserved pineapple wedges.

Watermelon Margarita

Ingredients:

  • Watermelon cubes
  • Kosher salt
  • 11 lime wedges
  • 3 cups orange liqueur
  • 3 cups tequila
  • 1 ½ cups freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 cup fine granulated sugar
  • 5 cups seedless watermelon, chopped

Directions:

  1. Freeze cubes of watermelon on a wax paper-lined tray for 2 hours or until firm.
  2. Spread salt on a small plate. Coat the rims of the glasses with one of the lime wedges, then dip the rims of the glasses in the salt and set aside.
  3. In a pitcher, combine orange liqueur, tequila, lime juice and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  4. Pour ¼ cup of tequila mixture into blender with chopped watermelon. Cover and blend until smooth then strain through a fine-mesh sieve. Combine watermelon juice with remaining tequila mixture and stir. Chill until ready to serve.
  5. Place frozen watermelon cubes in salt-rimmed glasses. Pour tequila mixture over watermelon cubes and garnish with remaining lime wedges.

Now that your mouth is watering, there’s only one thing left to do: decide which marg you’ll be serving up first!
