Tips for making your home office more productive

Bree here, from Home Zone Furniture.

If you work from home, you know firsthand that a well-organized, aesthetically pleasing office directly affects your day-to-day productivity. If you’re facing a slump in your work life, it might be time to rethink how your office can work for you.

From lighting to ergonomics, these are the most important changes to make in your home office to encourage daily productivity and focus.

Loud noises and distractions are only going to hamper your productivity. Set up your office in the quietest part of the house or a location in the home that has thick, soundproof walls. This way, when you get started on a project or task, there will be no outside source of noise to impede your flow.

Given the choice, always opt for natural light instead of fluorescent or LED lighting. Among other things, natural lighting stimulates the brain, provides a bright, even light for easy reading, and gives you both visual and mental clarity. Whether you have to relocate your office to find some light, or simply have to draw back the shades, a well-lit room is essential to staying upbeat and motivated throughout the workday.

One cardinal rule of being productive in your home office is to keep it organized! Nothing diverts focus faster than a stack of papers in disarray. Not only should your desk be clean and clear of clutter, your drawers and cabinets should be in order, too. This way, if you’re ever looking for a certain file or paper, you can find it quickly and directly without rummaging.

You can’t be productive day after day without being comfortable. Invest in a chair that gives you good support and encourages correct posture. Also, make sure the chair you choose is adjustable. Should you change desks in the future, you’ll always want your seat to be at the right height so your legs fit underneath. With the perfect office chair, you’ll be able to sit still and stay focused for hours on end without causing long-term pain.

Last but not least, add a little life to a bland office with a plant or two. Whether you choose something that hangs or is potted, a plant will bring color to your space and purify the air. Keep in mind that some plants are happier inside than others. If you don’t know where to start, take a look at my five favorite houseplants.

Feeling a little more productive already?

    Good afternoon Bree,
I would like to share with you my experience with the lewisville tx store recently. My name is Katrina and my fiancé is Bobby. We purchased a Sectional couch (Kennedy) at the end of Feb. which we were told was on back order. We were told it would be in on April 2 if we wanted delivery or March 27 if we wanted to pick it up. We chose to pick it up so we could have it earlier. Our salesman Jose told us sometimes they come in sooner so we could check back anytime to see. I called the store March 19, and spoke to Erica the store manager. She told me the couch was in but didn’t make the truck for delivery to the Euless store where pick up is, but it would be there on March 24. I said great! Ok! I called back the following Tuesday to find out what time the store closed that Friday or Saturday so we would know when to go get it. Erica again told me it was in and that it would be available either Friday or Saturday until 7 pm. The following day she had Jose call my fiancé and tell him there was a logistics error and that our couch was actually not in but it would be available April 2nd. I called back and spoke to Jose and told him how was it there but now it’s not? He assured me it would be available for pick up on March 30th. I called back to see if it could be delivered for free since we were told wrong by the manager, and I spoke to Keith (assistant manager) who told me it could not be done. He offered to give me a microfiber pillow for my trouble. I asked for the regional managers name and he refused to give it to me and told me he was solving the issue on his own. He said he could call and see if the Denton store had room on their truck for this past Tuesday and I agreed. He called back and said no they did not. I asked if he could find out if it could go on the truck for Friday and he said he would call me back. This took place on Saturday March 25th No phone call for 4 days. I called back on Wednesday and spoke to a Stephanie who told me the couch and tables would be on the truck for Friday to Denton. I said ok thank you. I called back last night to check and Keith answered the phone, I told him who I was and he immediately put me on hold and I waited 7 minutes before hanging up. This was close to closing time so I did not call back. I called the Denton store today to check if the truck had arrived and I was told that my couch WAS NOT delivered to the store! And even worse it’s showing to be on back order! What?! How is that after the store manager and assistant manager and salesman all told me it was scheduled for delivery! I called the Denton store and spoke to the manager there (forgot his name, Mike?) and he told me Keith never called and asked if it could be delivered for Friday and that the couch was for sure on back order, but he did have my end tables. So that means the manager and assistant manager along with two salesmen lied to me? I would like to think this is a misunderstanding, but at this point it’s been over a month and I still don’t have furniture for my brand new house! And what’s even worse is Keith who is in a managerial position refuses to even speak to me or call me back?! How UNPROFESSIONAL! I will never recommend this store to anyone which is unfortunate! Because I still have three bedroom sets to purchase and had planned on going back to your store! At this point I just want to know where my couch is!! Can you please help!
