How to Properly Clean Your Furniture This Spring by Home Zone Furniture

Spring cleaning usually brings with it a combination of excitement and dread. Many people look forward to spring cleaning to brighten and tidy things up in preparation for the new and warmer season while other people tend to hate it because of the word cleaning. At Home Zone Furniture, we not only offer our clients an excellent selection of furniture, but we also pride ourselves on providing furniture cleaning tips that will get your home in top shape for spring.

How to Properly Clean Your Furniture This Spring

It’s important to remember that every piece of furniture in your home requires a unique touch when cleaning it. Typically, you will not use the same approach to clean a mattress as you would when cleaning wood furniture. When you need to know how to clean a couch or another important fixture in your home, we recommend that you contact a member of our team for advice and keep these helpful tips in mind.

Living Room Furniture

Your couch is one of the main features of your living room. It’s a place where you and your family will go to sit and relax at the end of the night or entertain guests throughout the year. The way that you clean your couch or sofa will depend on whether it’s upholstered or leather. When cleaning a fabric sofa, you should always check and see whether there is a specific technique that the manufacturer recommends. If there isn’t, the first thing you should do is dry brush and vacuum any dust or dirt off your couch. Then, you will want to grab some baking soda and a soft towel. Mixing equal parts baking soda and water will create a solution that will remove any stains.

Bedroom Furniture

Your bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. It is where you go at the end of a long day to rest and relax. There are a few items that you should have handy when you are ready to clean your bedroom. Examples include a vacuum cleaner, warm water and mild soap, glass cleaner, disinfecting spray, and either clean rags or microfiber cloths.

A good rule of thumb is that before you start to clean any bedroom furniture such as your mattress, dressers or mirrors, you first do a load of laundry that includes bedsheets, comforters or pillowcases. Taking this step will give you better peace of mind of knowing that everything in your bedroom is clean, not simply the furniture.

Dining Room Furniture

Dining room furniture such as tables, chairs and cabinets will often benefit from simple soap and water when you are ready to clean them. Before you start, you will want to ensure that all crumbs or dust are wiped away and have a warm bowl of water mixed with liquid dish soap ready. Since dining room furniture tends to be some form of wood, you want to make sure that you wipe any furniture down quickly after washing it.

In between cleanings, you should try to dust this furniture at least once per week. If you happen to notice watermarks on your table, a mixture of vinegar and oil should do the trick when it comes to removing them.

Another detail to consider to keep your dining room furniture in pristine condition is to try to keep the humidity levels balanced in this area. When the humidity goes up, the wood on your table or chairs tends to expand. This process can make the furniture difficult to clean and maintain because dirt and dust may accumulate quicker within the table’s creases.

Decluttering & Updating Your Space

Cleaning and decluttering the rooms throughout your home is a great way to breathe fresh air and life into any space. When you clean furniture or remove stagnant items, you give yourself a fresh perspective, which may motivate you in other ways. For example, when you clean and organize your bedroom, you may come to find that you can rearrange furniture or purchase new pieces that would better suit the room.
